Nevada Secretary of State launches text message and ballot tracking campaigns to connect voters with trusted election information ahead of the 2026 Primary Election
CARSON CITY, NV – The Nevada Secretary of State’s Office is launching a text message campaign to streamline voter participation and increase access to critical information about the upcoming June Primary Election. The office is also launching a new website to allow voters to sign up to track their mail ballots: MyBallot.NV.gov.
“At a time when voters can be overwhelmed with misleading and confusing messages about our elections, it’s crucial that state and local election officials provide accurate, nonpartisan and trusted information voters need to build confidence and participate,” said Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar. “Local election officials are working tirelessly to provide safe, secure and accessible elections in 2026, and these messaging campaigns allow us to increase the transparency that voters demand and share timely updates directly with Nevadans.”
Text Message Campaign:
- Voters across Nevada will start receiving text messages with instructions and reminders on how to update their voter registration and vote in the June Primary Election. Text messages will come from the number (855) 448-8323 and be available in English and Spanish. The messages will also include an image of the Nevada State seal.
- The first messages sent to voters will encourage them to update their address and party affiliation ahead of June’s closed primary election.
- Closed Primary Text: Nonpartisan voters will receive a message informing them that the June Primary is a closed election, so if they would like to participate in the Democratic or Republican primaries, they will need to update their voter registration. An example of the first text message voters will receive is attached HERE.
- No Nonpartisan Races in Carson City Text: Nonpartisan voters in Carson City will also be informed that Carson City does not have any nonpartisan races for the primary ballot, so nonpartisan voters will not receive a ballot. An example of the first text message voters will receive is attached HERE.
- Address Update Text: Inactive Democratic and Republican voters will receive a message encouraging them to check their address information is correct. An example of the first text message voters will receive is attached HERE.
- This number will also be used for rapid response communications, including reaching out to voters who need to cure their ballot.
Ballot Tracking:
- Voters can track the status of their mail ballot by signing up for the free ballot tracking service on MyBallot.NV.gov, provided by the Secretary of State’s Office, to receive updates via email, phone call or text message once enrolled.
- Tracking updates may include:
- Mail ballot has been sent
- Mail ballot has been received by the county election office
- Mail ballot has been accepted for counting
- Mail ballot has been flagged by the county election office and requires attention
- The State of Nevada will provide ballot tracking services through the “Ballot Scout” service. Voters who previously signed up for ballot tracking with the State through “BallotTrax” will receive an initial message alerting them of the change.
Voters are encouraged to look for the ‘Official Election Mail’ seal on any mail they receive so they know it’s coming from a trusted source.
The Secretary of State’s office encourages all residents to take advantage of these resources to make their voices heard in the upcoming election.
How are Election Officials contacting me?
If you’ve received an email, text message or call from the Secretary of State’s Office or your County Clerk’s Office, that means you have provided your email and/or phone number on your voter registration file. You can check your voter registration on VOTE.NV.gov and update your contact information to receive the most up-to-date election information from your election officials. Voters can also update their contact information if they vote in-person during Early Voting or on Election Day through Same-Day Voter Registration.
Why would my local Election Official try to contact me?
Your local election official may try to contact you regarding important updates for the election and/or your ballot.
Nevada law requires election officials to use your signature to confirm your identity when voting ( NRS 293.269927 and NRS 293.285 ). If your county Clerk or Registrar’s Office has any questions on your signature (if your signature doesn’t appear to match, or your signature is missing, etc.), they will attempt to contact you to verify your ballot. This is part of the ‘signature curing’ process to ensure the security of the ballot and ensure your ballot is counted.
The deadline for a voter to cure their signature and have their ballot counted after Election Day is June 15, 2026. Updating your contact information on VOTE.NV.gov ensures that your local election official is able to contact you and get your ballot counted before the deadline.
How do I know if mail is official election mail or spam?
Official election mail from the Secretary of State’s Office or your local clerk/registrar’s office will always have the ‘Official Election Mail’ logo, which is a registered trademark of the United States Postal Service. This logo is permitted for nonpartisan use ONLY by federal, state and local government election officials.
Occasionally, third-party organizations may send targeted mailings to get citizens to register to vote for the first time, or to update their voter registration information. Even though these mailings may use the return address information of the Secretary of State or a county elections office, they may not be affiliated with that office.
Visit the Nevada Secretary of State’s website on Official Election Mail. Additional resources are provided by the USPS and can be reviewed here.
What can voters do if they can’t tell who sent them information regarding the election?
If voters have questions or concerns regarding any messaging or mail that they receive regarding Nevada’s elections, please contact the Secretary of State’s Office Elections Division by calling (775) 687-VOTE (8683) or by email at nvelect@sos.nv.gov.
