ACTION:

60-Day information collection notice.

SUMMARY:

In compliance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, the United States Military Academy (USMA) announces a proposed public information collection and seeks public comment on the provisions thereof. Comments are invited on: whether the proposed collection of information is necessary for the proper performance of the functions of the agency, including whether the information shall have practical utility; the accuracy of the agency's estimate of the burden of the proposed information collection; ways to enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected; and ways to minimize the burden of the information collection on respondents, including through the use of automated collection techniques or other forms of information technology.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:

Title; Associated Form; and OMB Number: United States Military Academy Candidate Admission Procedures; OMB Control Number 0702-0060.

Needs and Uses: The United States Military Academy (USMA) is collecting this information to guide qualified candidates through its admissions process and to select the annual incoming class of cadets. This collection is required to determine which candidates will be admitted and is authorized by Title 10, United States Code, Section 4346, which outlines admission requirements, and Army Regulation 210-26.

The information is used by the USMA Department of Admissions to holistically evaluate candidates in a multi-phase process. In the Pre-Candidate phase, an initial Candidate Questionnaire is used to determine if an applicant meets the minimum qualifications. Competitive applicants move to the Candidate phase, where they complete a Candidate Kit, providing comprehensive data including academic records, evaluations, and essays. Finally, accepted candidates submit additional information to facilitate their transition into the Corps of Cadets, covering everything from medical forms to uniform measurements.

The respondents are prospective students applying for admission to West Point. Without this information collection, the USMA Admissions Committee would be unable to effectively evaluate candidates' qualifications, character, and leadership potential, thus hindering its ability to select the most qualified individuals to become commissioned leaders of character.
