Defense Intelligence Agency Amends Privacy Act System of Records
Summary
The Defense Intelligence Agency is amending a system of records notice for its Privacy Act inventory. The changes involve updating the system name, categories of individuals and records covered, purpose, retention, system manager, and record source categories for the 'Special Program Information Systems' record.
What changed
The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has amended its Privacy Act system of records notice for the 'Special Program Information Systems' (formerly 'Special Program Information System'). The amendments include updating the system name, broadening the categories of individuals covered from DIA personnel to 'Civilian, military and contract Intelligence Community employees,' and expanding the categories of records to include the 'name of database to which access has been granted.' The purpose statement has also been revised to reflect Intelligence Community-wide access, and the retention and disposal policy has been updated to link data maintenance to active database access rather than active security clearance.
While this is a notice of amendment to an existing system of records, and not a new system report requiring submission to Congress, regulated entities should be aware of the changes in how personal information is managed and described within the DIA's systems. There are no immediate compliance actions required for external entities, as this pertains to internal DIA record-keeping practices under the Privacy Act. The effective date for these changes is April 7, 2008, unless comments necessitate a contrary determination.
