NPC Philippines Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Data Privacy Protection

The National Privacy Commission (NPC) of the Philippines marks its 10th anniversary in March 2026, reflecting on a decade of strengthening data protection frameworks since its establishment on March 7, 2016. 61 Global Data Authorities Issue Joint Statement on AI-Generated Imagery Privacy

The National Privacy Commission of the Philippines joined 60 other data protection authorities worldwide in publishing a Joint Statement on AI-Generated Imagery and the Protection of Privacy. The statement, coordinated through the Global Privacy Assembly's International Enforcement Cooperation Working Group, addresses concerns about AI systems capable of generating realistic images and videos of identifiable individuals without consent. Signatories outlined expectations including robust safeguards against misuse, meaningful transparency about AI capabilities, accessible content removal mechanisms, and enhanced protections for children. The NPC has indicated it is reviewing regulatory and policy options in response to these emerging risks.
