NPC’s Privacy in the Spotlight Webcast Bags Bronze at ASEAN Digital Awards 2026
January 19, 2026 3:53 PM Last Edit: January 19th, 2026
HANOI, VIET NAM - The National Privacy Commission (NPC) won the Bronze Award in the Digital Content Category at the ASEAN Digital Awards (ADA) 2026 for its Privacy in the Spotlight (PITS) Webcast, during the awarding ceremony held on 15 January 2026 at Meliá Hanoi in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, alongside the 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting. The Bronze Award placed the NPC among the top three out of 136 regional submissions in the category.
The PITS Webcast is a pioneering initiative in the ASEAN region and within the global privacy community as among the first to use webcast format to present privacy and data protection topics with subject matter experts in a simple and relatable way. To date, the webcast reached over 640,000 views on Facebook and YouTube.
According to Privacy Commissioner Atty. Johann Carlos S. Barcena, CESO III, the award reflects the PITS Program’s deliberate design and sustained public engagement, “Privacy in the Spotlight was developed as a long-form digital platform where complex data privacy concepts and issues can be discussed in depth and in context of everyday privacy concerns, emerging trends, regulatory issuances, and real questions from the public. The Bronze Award recognizes the effectiveness of this format in reaching audiences beyond the usual methods.”
“We never expected to reach this level of recognition, especially since this is a low-cost production, with only Php20,000 budget. We relied entirely on the creativity, commitment, and technical skill of the NPC team behind the camera. We reached significant nationwide viewership, just a fraction of a peso per Filipino spent by government to raise awareness about privacy,” said Dr. Roren Marie M. Chin, Chief of the NPC Public Information and Assistance Division.
“We hope our experience encourages other agencies to explore cost-efficient and creative ways to reach the public. We thank our leadership, both current Privacy Commissioner Barcena and former Privacy Commissioner Atty. John Henry D. Naga, and Executive Director Atty. Ivin Ronald D.M. Alzona, for trusting and supporting our campaigns,” Dr. Chin added.
The ADA, formerly known as the ASEAN ICT Awards, is a prestigious regional recognition that honors outstanding digital achievements across ASEAN, showcasing innovative initiatives, products, and solutions that deliver real value to people’s lives and contribute to the region’s socio-economic growth.
The Digital Content Category covers digital products and services that combine text, sound, images, and video to deliver engaging, interactive, and immersive content. Through structured,
expert-led discussions on data privacy and protection, PITS demonstrates how digital media can be effectively used to translate regulatory principles into practical and real-world guidance.
The Bronze Award builds on the PITS Webcast’s earlier recognition in 2024, when it received the Outstanding Digital Campaign Award (Best Long-Form Campaign) at “ Parangal: Gawad ng Kahusayan sa Komunikasyong Pampubliko ”, the inaugural annual awards program of the Presidential Communications Office recognizing excellence in public sector communication. The webcast also gained international recognition as a finalist in the Global Privacy Assembly Global Privacy and Data Protection Awards 2024, under the Education and Public Awareness category.
The award was received by Executive Director Alzona and Dr. Chin, representing the NPC.
