What changed

The Federal Council has appointed two new members to the nine-person Institute Council of the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI), effective 1 April 2026. Béatrice Fink Düring, a self-employed consultant with expertise in finance, risk management, and corporate governance, takes the seat vacated by Oliver Gassmann. Nicola Alessandro Mona, managing director of Valbianca SA and former CEO of Hockey Club Ambrì-Piotta, succeeds Vincenza Trivigno, who departed at the end of 2025.

These are routine governance appointments with no direct compliance implications for external parties. The Institute Council's functions—setting IPI fees, approving budgets and financial statements, and determining Executive Board composition—continue unchanged. No new regulatory obligations or reporting requirements are created by these personnel changes.

31.03.2026 |

Béatrice Fink Düring

Nicola Alessandro Mona The Federal Council has elected Béatrice Fink Düring and Nicola Mona to the Institute Council of the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) with effect from 1 April. Nicola Mona, a citizen of Ticino, succeeds Vincenza Trivigno, who stepped down at the end of 2025 after the Federal Council elected her as the Executive Director of Swissmedic with effect from January 2026. Béatrice Fink Düring will take over from Oliver Gassmann, who left the Institute Council at the same time.

Béatrice Fink Düring is a self-employed consultant who provides CFO-as-a-Service solutions. Prior to that, she was active for a number of years in the area of finance at various companies, including b-rayZ AG, Energie 360° AG, Kantonsspital Baselland and Pro Senectute Schweiz. She also sat on the executive board of Pro Senectute Schweiz. As an experienced board member, she brings expertise in the areas of risk management and corporate governance.

Nicola Mona is the managing director of Valbianca SA, a company active in the field of tourism in Airolo, Ticino. Before that, he was the CEO of Hockey Club Ambrì-Piotta and the managing director of Skypull SA, which he co-founded. As a start-up coach at Innosuisse, he assists technology-driven companies with transformation and scaling matters and with international development. This includes the creation of professional management structures and the strategic use of intangible assets. In view of his activities as a CEO, board chairman and mandate holder, he also has in-depth experience in the areas of strategy, internal control systems, and risk and compliance management.

The election of Béatrice Fink Düring and Nicola Mona means that the areas of finance and scientific development will again be expertly represented on the Institute Council. In Nicola Mona, the Council will also have a representative of Italian-speaking Switzerland again after a lengthy period with no such representation. The Institute Council consists of five women and four men, as before.

The Institute Council, composed of nine members, is the IPI’s chief operational governing body. It sets the IPI’s fees and approves the IPI’s budget, annual report and financial statements. In addition, the Institute Council determines the composition of the Executive Board, with the exception of the Director General, who is elected by the Federal Council.
