RBI extends Baghat Urban Co-operative Bank regulatory directions
Summary
The Reserve Bank of India has extended regulatory directions issued to The Baghat Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, Solan for a further three months from close of business on April 8, 2026 to close of business on July 8, 2026. The original directions under Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 were issued on October 6, 2025. The extension is subject to review and does not imply satisfaction with the bank's financial position.
What changed
The RBI has extended the regulatory directions applicable to The Baghat Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, Solan for an additional three-month period through July 8, 2026. The original directions, which were issued under Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, restricting the bank's operations remain in full force. The extension is issued in the public interest and is subject to further review.
For the bank's depositors and management, this extension signals continued regulatory concerns about the bank's financial health or compliance posture. The three-month extension provides limited relief while the RBI continues its supervisory review. No new restrictions are imposed, but the bank must continue operating under the existing regulatory constraints until further notice.
What to do next
- Continue to comply with all terms and conditions of the original directive
- Prepare for potential additional restrictions or enforcement actions at next review
- Monitor for further RBI communications regarding the bank's compliance status
