PM Anwar Commends Civil Service Amid Global Energy Crisis
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has praised the Malaysian civil service for its commendable performance and resilience amid ongoing global energy challenges. Addressing the Transport Ministry's monthly staff gathering, the Prime Minister highlighted the role of civil service culture, discipline, and unity in enabling Malaysia to maintain strong performance compared to regional peers. Anwar called on civil servants to be more proactive in communicating with the public and providing feedback on issues of concern.
ADB Proposes US$30B Facility for ASEAN Finance Sector Plan 2026–2030
The 13th ASEAN Finance Ministers' and Central Bank Governors' Meeting (AFMGM) on April 10, 2026, noted ADB's proposed US$30 billion (RM141 billion) facility for 2026–2030 to support the Finance Sectoral Plan and ASEAN Community Vision 2045. The meeting also welcomed progress on the ASEAN Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance, a US$19.4 billion green finance pipeline, the re-established ASEAN Swap Arrangement, and the newly launched Regional Connectivity Fund for Energy. ASEAN Finance Ministers expressed concern over West Asia tensions and their impact on global trade and tariffs.
Weekly Fuel Price Adjustment: RON95 RON97 Down 25 Sen, Diesel Down 75 Sen
The Ministry of Finance Malaysia announced weekly fuel price adjustments for April 16-22, 2026. Unsubsidised RON95 and RON97 petrol prices each dropped 25 sen to RM4.02 and RM5.10 per litre respectively. The retail price of unsubsidised diesel in Peninsular Malaysia fell by 75 sen to RM5.97 per litre. Subsidised fuel prices under BUDI MADANI, SKPS, and SKDS remained unchanged. The government increased BUDI Diesel cash assistance to RM400 per month for April 2026 for 350,000 recipients and raised the Ploughing Incentive for Padi Farmers to RM300 per hectare.
13th ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting Outcomes
Malaysia's Finance Minister II led the delegation at the 13th ASEAN Finance Ministers' and Central Bank Governors' Meeting (AFMGM) on 10 April 2026. ASEAN expressed concern over Middle East tensions and their impact on global trade, energy, and tariff risks. The Meeting endorsed the Philippines' 2026 Chairmanship priorities including sustainable capital markets, regional payment connectivity, and welcomed the proposed USD30 billion Asian Development Bank facility for 2026-2030.
MHIT Pilot Phase To Address Structural Gaps In Insurance And Takaful Sector
The Malaysia Health Insurance and Takaful Initiative (MHIT) pilot phase is scheduled for rollout in H2 2026 to address structural gaps in the insurance and takaful sector. The Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, and Bank Negara Malaysia are collaborating under the RESET strategy to address medical inflation through a voluntary insurance plan with tiered co-payment features. Full implementation is targeted for early 2027.
