What changed

The MFSA hosted a comprehensive one-day workshop on climate and environmental risks in banking, bringing together banking supervisors, ECB officials, and national competent authorities from Portugal and the Netherlands, alongside academics and industry advisors. The programme addressed supervisory findings and good practices, EBA Guidelines on ESG risk management, C&E risk integration into credit processes, and interactive case studies using KPIs and KRIs for climate risk oversight.

Banking professionals, particularly CROs and risk staff, should note the explicit emphasis on embedding C&E risks into governance arrangements, credit processes, and enterprise risk frameworks as a regulatory expectation. Firms should review their current C&E risk integration practices against the supervisory standards and EBA guidelines discussed at this workshop.
