Call for Papers: Central Bank of Barbados 46th Annual Review Seminar
The Central Bank of Barbados has issued a Call for Papers for its 46th Annual Review Seminar, scheduled for August 10-14, 2026, in Bridgetown, Barbados. The seminar theme is "Shifting Economic Landscapes: Strategic Responses of Small Open Economies," covering topics including trade dynamics, energy transition, digital transformation, demographic change, monetary policy, fiscal sustainability, and financial sector stability. Researchers, policymakers, and practitioners are invited to submit abstracts by June 26, 2026.
Central Bank of Barbados and BARP Partner for Senior Digital Literacy
The Central Bank of Barbados (CBB) and the Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a digital literacy empowerment programme for senior citizens. The Bank will sponsor and provide tablets, develop BiMPay training modules, and deploy technical staff to conduct hands-on sessions. The initiative aims to promote financial inclusion and reduce the digital divide ahead of BiMPay's launch on June 12.
Security Council Adds Entry to ISIL Sanctions List
The UN Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999), 1989 (2011) and 2253 (2015) concerning ISIL (Da'esh), Al-Qaida and associated individuals and entities approved the addition of one entry to its consolidated sanctions list on 26 March 2026. The designation subjects the individual or entity to an assets freeze, travel ban, and arms embargo under Security Council resolution 2734 (2024), adopted under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. The Central Bank of Barbados is notifying financial institutions of this update.
Security Council ISIL and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee Adds One Entry to Sanctions List
The Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999), 1989 (2011) and 2253 (2015) concerning ISIL (Da'esh), Al-Qaida and associated individuals, groups, undertakings and entities approved the addition of one entry to its consolidated sanctions list on 30 March 2026. The newly listed individual or entity is subject to an assets freeze, travel ban, and arms embargo as set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 2734 (2024), adopted under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. Financial institutions and other regulated entities in Barbados should monitor their records and update screening procedures accordingly.
Quarterly Economic Review Set for April 29
The Central Bank of Barbados has announced that Governor Dr. Kevin Greenidge will present the quarterly review of the economy covering the first three months of 2026 on Wednesday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m. The press conference will be livestreamed on the Bank's Facebook page and YouTube channel. Topics to be covered include economic growth, debt-to-GDP ratio, international reserves, inflation, unemployment, and the outlook for the remainder of 2026.
