Bank of Albania Presents First Draft Green Taxonomy for Albania

The Bank of Albania has published the first draft of Albania's Green Taxonomy, developed with technical assistance from the European Investment Bank. The draft taxonomy establishes technical screening criteria for classifying economic activities as environmentally sustainable, aligned with EU taxonomy frameworks. Stakeholders from banking, regulated professions, large corporations, environmental organizations, and chambers of commerce participated in a two-session workshop to provide technical feedback on the draft.

Financial institutions operating in Albania should monitor the taxonomy's development, as it will establish classification standards for sustainable economic activities once finalized. Banks, asset managers, and large corporations engaged in sustainable investment activities will need to align reporting and investment frameworks with the eventual taxonomy criteria. The inter-institutional cooperation formalized through an upcoming MoU signals regulatory momentum toward implementation.
