Confirmed Avian Influenza Cases in Wild Birds, Great Britain
Summary
The Animal and Plant Health Agency publishes regularly updated data on confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) findings in wild birds across Great Britain. The page contains annual surveillance data files from winter 2016-17 through week 16 of 2026, updated weekly with new findings. This represents routine government wildlife disease surveillance data rather than regulatory action.
What changed
This page publishes findings from APHA's ongoing routine avian influenza surveillance in wild birds, including data from warden patrols and public reports of found-dead birds. Annual files are updated weekly during active outbreak periods.
Agricultural firms, particularly poultry operations, and public health authorities may reference this data for situational awareness regarding HPAI spread in wild bird populations. The document does not create compliance obligations but provides surveillance data that affected parties may use for risk assessment purposes.

This report is produced by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA). It is updated regularly with findings of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) – often referred to as bird flu – in wild birds in Great Britain. Updates are recorded in calendar weeks (for example, week 1 is the first week in January).
These are findings of avian influenza from our ongoing routine surveillance for avian influenza in wild birds. This surveillance is made up of patrols by wild bird reserve wardens and collections of found-dead wild birds reported to us by members of the public. This data only represents cases where birds have tested positive for avian influenza.
