Japan's Toshiyuki ONUMA elected ICAO Council President

On November 26, 2025 (local time), the election for the next President of the ICAO Council was held at ICAO Headquarters in Montreal. Japan's nominee, Mr. Toshiyuki ONUMA, was elected. This marks the first time in ICAO's approximately 80-year history that someone from the Asia-Pacific region has been elected to this top position. The President will serve a three-year term from January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2028.

Japan and India Sign Smart City Memorandum of Cooperation with Thane Municipal Corporation

Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and Thane Municipal Corporation of India signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on 11 December 2025 for smart city development projects in Thane District, Maharashtra. The agreement was signed by Deputy Minister Kawamura Kenichi for MLIT and Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao for TMC. Both parties will work together to advance smart city initiatives, foster urban development innovation, improve infrastructure efficiency, and enhance quality of life for residents.
