| Cobb and Fulton Counties… I-285 Lane Closures in Smyrna, Vinings this Weekend - Expect Delays ATLANTA – Work crews for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will install daytime lane closures  on I-285 this weekend for a project along seven miles of I-285 from Collier Drive in Fulton County to Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County. These lane closures are related to the ongoing concrete slab reconstruction and rehabilitation project currently ongoing along the westside of the I-285 corridor. The work includes improvements to the roadway shoulder lanes, the concrete median, signage, guardrail and ATMS/ITS systems.

Weather and onsite conditions permitting, these are the lane closures scheduled between 9 p.m. on Friday, April 17 and 5 a.m. on Monday:
- I-285 northbound:
- Two right lanes closed between the I-285/I-20 interchange (exit 10) and South Atlanta Road (exit 16)
Lane closures are needed to ensure there is ample room for crews to safely work and for motorists’ safety during the concrete slab rehabilitation activities, as large equipment will be on-site. Roadside message boards and signage will alert drivers of the closures in advance.

This $155 million project is one of two projects along the I-285 westside corridor designed to repair and/or replace concrete slabs. It is scheduled for completion in fall 2028.

Drivers should exercise caution in and around work zones, wear seatbelts, follow signage guidance, reduce speed, move over one lane, when possible, to ensure the safety of crews, and avoid distractions behind the wheel. Motorists are urged to use the 511GA app or their preferred navigation or wayfinding apps to navigate lane and road closures during construction if traveling on I-285 this weekend is necessary.
