DeSantis Announces I-4 Express Lanes, Truck Parking Facility
Governor Ron DeSantis and FDOT announced major transportation infrastructure projects including 17 miles of new express lanes on I-4 in Hillsborough County from I-75 to County Line Road, a new 100-space truck parking facility at the Polk Parkway and I-4 interchange in Polk County, and construction beginning on the nation's first Advanced Air Mobility aerial test bed at SunTrax. The I-4 express lane project is programmed with construction expected to begin in 2028.
FL DOT Spotlights 2025 Transportation Infrastructure Accomplishments
Florida DOT issued a year-end press release highlighting major 2025 accomplishments across the state's transportation system. Key achievements include emergency response to Winter Storm Enzo and Central Florida flooding, completion of I-4 congestion relief lanes eight months ahead of schedule, and $180 million in federal INFRA grants for truck parking expansion along the I-4 corridor.
America 250 Florida Duel at Daytona Partnership Announcement
FDOT announced a sponsorship partnership with Daytona International Speedway for the America 250 Florida Duel at Daytona race on February 12, 2026. The event commemorates the nation's 250th anniversary and aims to promote roadway safety awareness to race fans. FDOT will be present at the Speedway to share safe driving tips as part of its Target Zero initiative.
Governor DeSantis Budget Invests $15.4B in Florida Roads
FDOT Secretary Jared Perdue announced Governor DeSantis' proposed Floridians First Budget of $15.4 billion for Florida's transportation system. The budget allocates $4.9 billion for highway maintenance and construction adding 181 lane miles, $1.4 billion for resurfacing 2,622 lane miles, $873 million for 59 bridge repairs or replacements, and $269.2 million for highway safety initiatives. Additional funding supports aviation ($295.5M), seaports ($155.5M), rural infrastructure ($30M-$81.9M), and freight rail ($233.2M).
FDOT Honors Crossing Guards on Appreciation Day
FDOT celebrated Florida School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day on February 6, 2026, honoring crossing guards for their role in student safety. The department recognized award recipients including Minnie Alexander as Crossing Guard of the Year and announced training guidelines under the Ramon Turnquest School Crossing Guard Act.
