Det är säkert att åka tåg i Sverige – ingen passagerare har avlidit sedan 2010. Jämfört med 2024 har antalet omkomna i spårtrafikrelaterade olyckor minskat under 2025. 88 personer omkom inom järnvägen, 5 inom tunnelbanan och 3 inom spårväg.

Normalt omkommer mellan 90 till 100 personer varje år inom spårtrafiken. Det nationella målet som är satt skulle innebära en halvering av antalet omkomna fram till 2030 (till max 50).

– Som utvecklingen ser ut just nu kommer det nationella målet bli svårt att uppnå. Historiskt utgörs majoriteten av dödsfallen inom spårtrafik av självmord, vilket troligen också är fallet för 2025. Antalet självmord inom spårtrafiken varierar från år till år, men följer ofta förändringen av antalet totala självmord i Sverige.

En omkom på jobbet

En anställd förolyckades under 2025, olyckan inträffade i samband med arbete i spår. De senaste åren har det återkommande omkommit anställda inom järnvägen.

Förutom arbetsplatsolyckan har de som omkommit varit plankorsningstrafikanter, obehöriga i spår eller vägtrafikanter (endast spårväg).
