Summary
The U.S. Department of State has issued a notice determining that certain objects imported for the exhibition 'Embroidered Traditions from Morocco to Afghanistan' at The Art Institute of Chicago are of cultural significance and their temporary exhibition is in the national interest. This determination is made pursuant to the Act of October 19, 1965.
What changed
The Department of State has published a notice designating specific objects imported for the exhibition "Embroidered Traditions from Morocco to Afghanistan" as culturally significant. This determination, made under the Act of October 19, 1965 (22 U.S.C. 2459), exempts these objects from certain import restrictions, allowing for their temporary display at The Art Institute of Chicago and potentially other venues.
This notice primarily affects importers and entities involved in organizing international exhibitions. While this is a specific determination for a particular exhibition, it serves as a notice of the process for designating culturally significant objects. Compliance officers should be aware of this determination if involved with the import or exhibition of such items, though no immediate action is required beyond acknowledging the notice.
