Summary

NOAA published a 30-day notice extending an information collection request under the Paperwork Reduction Act for the Pacific Islands Logbook Family of Forms (OMB Control No. 0648-0214). The collection applies to 576 vessel operators and owners in Federally-managed fisheries in the Pacific Islands Region who must report fishing activities, catch data, and protected species interactions. Comments on the collection are due within 30 days of publication.

What changed

NOAA's Office of the Chief Administrative Officer is requesting a 30-day extension for an existing information collection covering the Pacific Islands Logbook Family of Forms under OMB Control Number 0648-0214. The collection requires vessel operators and owners in Federally-managed fisheries in the Pacific Islands Region to submit reports on fishing activities, catch, and interactions with protected species (seabirds, sea turtles, marine mammals) pursuant to 50 CFR 665.14. Longline vessel operators must also submit pre-trip notifications per 50 CFR 665.803.

Vessel operators and owners in Pacific Islands fisheries should review their current reporting obligations and ensure continued compliance with mandatory logbook and notification requirements. Public comments on the information collection may be submitted within 30 days of this notice (by May 1, 2026) via www.reginfo.gov. The collection imposes 6,741 annual burden hours across 576 respondents, with response times averaging 16 minutes per report.

What to do next

  1. Review current logbook reporting obligations under 50 CFR 665
  2. Ensure mandatory pre-trip notifications and catch reports are submitted as required for Pacific Islands fisheries
  3. Submit public comments on the information collection via www.reginfo.gov by May 1, 2026 if desired
