Brazil Highlights NIB, Decarbonization and Critical Minerals at Hannover Messe
Brazil, as the official partner country of Hannover Messe 2026, showcased the Nova Indústria Brasil (NIB) industrial policy through seminars and panels. Secretary Uallace Moreira presented the six missions of NIB and highlighted policy instruments including the Plano Mais Produção and the Mover program for automotive sector decarbonization. The sessions covered sustainable aviation fuel, innovative decarbonization solutions, and Brazil-EU partnerships on critical minerals.
Brazilian Trade Flows Reach US$ 12 Billion in Third Week of April
Brazil's trade balance recorded a weekly surplus of US$ 0.878 billion and trade flow of US$ 12 billion for the third week of April 2026, driven by exports of US$ 6.4 billion and imports of US$ 5.6 billion. For the full month through the third week, exports total US$ 21.2 billion and imports US$ 13.7 billion, yielding a cumulative surplus of US$ 7.5 billion with total trade flow of US$ 34.9 billion. Year-to-date exports stand at US$ 103.6 billion against imports of US$ 81.86 billion, producing a surplus of US$ 21.7 billion and trade flow of US$ 185.4 billion. Export sectors showed growth of 16.1% in agriculture, 29.9% in extractive industry, and 14.4% in manufacturing compared to the prior year period.
Rodrigo Zerbone Appointed Executive Secretary at MDIC
Rodrigo Zerbone was named Executive Secretary of Brazil's Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) on April 22, 2026. Zerbone previously led the Foreign Trade Chamber (Camex) and succeeds himself in government service since 2004. Juliana Volpi was appointed to replace Zerbone as Camex Executive Secretary, and James Elias was named Chief of Cabinet for Minister Márcio Elias Rosa, completing three senior personnel appointments at the ministry.
