Summary

The Government of Canada has issued a tender for the acquisition of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Credits from projects located in Canada. The tender closes on May 11, 2026, and aims to procure credits from various technology streams including Direct Air Capture, Bioenergy with CCS, Biochar, and Enhanced Mineralization.

What changed

The Government of Canada, through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PSPC), is seeking offers for the acquisition of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Credits. This tender, with solicitation number WS5477770292, is open until May 11, 2026, and covers multiple technology streams for CDR projects that reduce net greenhouse gas emissions and are located within Canada. The expected contract period is from award date to March 31, 2029.

Interested suppliers must submit offers by the closing date and time of May 11, 2026, 2 PM EDT, to avoid disqualification. The procurement is conducted under various trade agreements, including the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA). Potential suppliers interested in partnering can add their company to a list, but this does not replace the formal tendering process. This represents a new initiative by the Canadian government to procure carbon removal credits, indicating a move towards market-based mechanisms for achieving climate targets.

What to do next

  1. Review tender requirements for Carbon Dioxide Removal Credits.
  2. Prepare and submit offers by the May 11, 2026 deadline.
  3. Consider partnership opportunities if applicable.
