Computing system to manage security protocols for multiple electronic messaging providers based on domain delegation
Summary
The USPTO granted patent US12592972B2 to Klaviyo, Inc. covering domain delegation security methods for managing bulk email across multiple electronic messaging providers. The patent describes assigning sub-subdomains to email sending providers and administering security protocols based on those assignments. Invented by Joseph Gracey, the patent contains 19 claims.
What changed
USPTO granted patent US12592972B2 to Klaviyo, Inc. on March 31, 2026. The patent covers methods for administering security protocols for bulk email sending from multiple providers, including obtaining control of a subdomain from the original domain owner, assigning sub-subdomains to each email provider, and administering security protocols accordingly. The filing date was April 16, 2024, with application number 18636556.
Technology companies developing bulk email systems, email service providers, or domain delegation mechanisms should review the 19 patent claims to assess whether their products or methods may fall within the protected scope. While patent grants do not create immediate compliance obligations, entities should consider whether a license is needed or whether their implementations differ sufficiently from the patented claims to avoid potential infringement exposure.
What to do next
- Review patent claims (1-19) to assess whether current bulk email or domain delegation methods may infringe
- Consult with IP counsel if products or services involve subdomain assignment to third-party email providers
- Evaluate design-around options if potential overlap exists with patented security protocol administration methods

Abstract
A method for administering security protocols for sending bulk email from multiple email sending providers comprises obtaining control of the subdomain from the original domain owner. The method further includes assigning sub-subdomains (or additional nested domains) to each of the email sending providers and administering security protocols for each of the email sending providers based on the assigned sub-subdomains. In embodiments, the method further comprises generating content for and sending the bulk emails. Related systems are also described.
