Sri Lanka Capital Market Leaders Host Saudi Arabia Investor Forum

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), in partnership with the Embassy of Sri Lanka to Saudi Arabia, convened an investor forum on 24 January 2026 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Riyadh. The forum targeted the Sri Lankan expatriate community and international investors to showcase investment opportunities in Sri Lanka's capital market following the country's exit from sovereign default. CSE Director Ray Abeywardena highlighted that the All-Share-Price-Index reached over 23,800 points, representing 120% growth since October 2024, with CSE ranked as the 3rd best performing market in the region in 2025.

SEC Sri Lanka and SLAASMB Sign Strategic MOU on Financial Reporting Oversight

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board (SLAASMB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 23 February 2026 to strengthen cooperation on financial reporting and auditing oversight. The MOU establishes a formal framework covering entities licensed under the SEC Act, including stock exchanges, stock brokers and dealers, unit trusts, fund management companies, and listed companies. Under the agreement, the SEC will scrutinize annual reports and financial statements against regulatory rules and disclosure requirements, while the SLAASMB will examine compliance with Sri Lanka Accounting Standards and Sri Lanka Auditing Standards, with both bodies committing to a structured information-sharing mechanism.

SEC and CSE Joint Session Auditors Watchlist Companies

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) jointly organized an awareness session on 23rd March 2026 for auditors of companies currently on the CSE Watchlist. The session focused on enhancing awareness of enforcement actions and timelines, reducing prolonged Watchlist durations, and fostering a coordinated regulatory approach among regulators, auditors, and listed companies. SEC Chairman Prof. D.B.P.H. Dissabandara highlighted the core virtues of integrity, objectivity, and confidentiality in auditing, noting that auditors holding the line on transparency give investors the confidence to trust financial statements.
