Tyco Electronics Fined £340k After Worker Hand Injury, Swindon

HSE prosecuted Tyco Electronics UK Limited for breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 after a worker suffered serious hand injuries while cleaning machinery at the company's Swindon site on 7 March 2023. The employee had manually raised a hydraulic ram and reached into the machine, when the door fell and activated the ram, trapping his limb and causing torn nerves and tendons. Bristol Magistrates' Court imposed a fine of £340,000 plus £5,145 costs on 17 April 2026.
