Mohamad Ezzeddine v. City of Burien – LUPA Service Requirements

Van Leeuwen v. City of Burien - Dog Bite Negligence Claims Affirmed

The Washington Court of Appeals affirmed dismissal of negligence claims brought by Matthijs van Leeuwen against the City of Burien and Burien Cares (a community animal organization). Van Leeuwen sought damages for dog bite injuries requiring multiple surgeries. The court upheld the superior court's ruling that the public duty doctrine barred claims against the municipality and animal organization, as Van Leeuwen failed to establish any exception to that doctrine.
