Kankakee Hydroelectric Project Subsequent Minor License Application

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has issued a notice of application filing for the Kankakee Hydroelectric Project (FERC Project No. 8632-023), submitted by the City of Kankakee, Illinois. The project, located on the Kankakee River in Kankakee County, Illinois, comprises a 300-acre reservoir, a 440-foot concrete dam with an inflatable rubber dam, three 400-kilowatt generating units with a total installed capacity of 1.2 megawatts, and associated facilities. The application requests a subsequent minor license to continue operating the project in run-of-river mode, with estimated annual energy production of approximately 1,124 megawatt hours. Resource agencies, Indian Tribes, and interested persons have until June 2, 2026 to file additional study requests and requests for cooperating agency status.
