The New York State Board of Real Estate is established pursuant to §442-i of the Real Property Law, effective January 1, 1996. The Board consists of 15 members: the Secretary of State and Superintendent of DFS serving in statutory roles, plus 13 appointed members who must include at least five real estate brokers. Members serve two-year terms with a maximum tenure of ten years.
NY Real Estate License Law Index - Article 12-A Real Property Law

The directory includes schools ranging from large universities (Fordham, Hofstra) to private real estate schools and community colleges.
Renew NY Real Estate Salesperson License, Two-Year Term
The New York Division of Licensing Services provides guidance on renewing real estate salesperson licenses. Licenses are valid for two years, with renewal reminders sent three months prior via email and postcard. Licensees must have a sponsoring broker and are encouraged to renew online through the eAccessNY portal.
Real Estate Salesperson License Requirements: 77-Hour Education and Examination
The New York Real Estate Commission published licensing requirements for aspiring real estate salespersons. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, complete 77 hours of approved qualifying education, pass the state examination, obtain sponsorship from a licensed New York broker, and present valid state photo identification. Course providers offering qualifying and continuing education must apply for and maintain approval from the Department of State.
