An oral care composition with retinoid compound, a pentapeptide, such as palmitoyl KTTKS [SEQ ID NO. 2], and/or an olive oil. Methods of preventing gingival recession, stopping gingival recession, reversing gingival recession, decrease gum recession, increase gingival barrier protection, promoting collagen synthesis, promoting extracellular matrix synthesis, increasing gum resilience, increasing epidermal thickness and/or promoting fibrillin synthesis, in an oral cavity of an animal by contacting the oral care compositions with at least one surface of the oral cavity.
