Flavonoid derivative for treating dental caries
Summary
The USPTO granted Patent US12590111B2 to Mühlbauer Technology GmbH for a flavonoid derivative designed to treat dental caries by suppressing biofilm formation on dental surfaces. The patent covers the flavonoid compound with an alkylene group adhesion mechanism and a kit for producing it. The patent has 15 claims and names inventors Kaja Yorgan and Olav-Sven Becker.
What changed
The USPTO issued Patent US12590111B2 granting Mühlbauer Technology GmbH exclusive rights to a flavonoid derivative composition for dental caries treatment. The invention consists of a flavonoid coupled to an alkylene group via an ether bond, with an adhesion group enabling attachment to dental surfaces, providing long-term suppression of biofilm formation. The patent application (No. 17637029) was filed on August 20, 2020, and contains 15 claims.
This patent grant establishes intellectual property protection for the assignee in the dental/pharmaceutical composition space. Competitors developing similar flavonoid-based dental treatments should conduct freedom-to-operate analyses. The assignee may pursue licensing opportunities or enforcement against infringing products. No immediate compliance actions are required by regulated entities unless they are actively developing competing products in this space.

Abstract
The invention relates to a flavonoid derivative containing a flavonoid that is coupled to an alkylene group via an ether bond, said alkylene group having an adhesion group for adhesion onto a dental surface. The flavonoid derivative has a long-term suppressing effect on the dental disease-causing formation of biofilm on the dental surfaces treated with the flavonoid derivative. The invention further relates to a kit for producing such a flavonoid derivative, and to the use of same.
