OPM Seeks Comments on Reconsideration Rights Collection

Email

Summary

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is seeking public comments on an expiring information collection request concerning reconsideration rights for Civil Service or Federal Employees retirement, health benefits, and life insurance coverage. The comment period is open until April 28, 2026.

What changed

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has issued a 60-day notice requesting public comments on an existing information collection request (ICR) titled "Information and Instruction on Your Reconsideration Rights" (RI 38-47), associated with OMB No. 3206-0237. This collection outlines procedures for requesting reconsideration of OPM decisions related to retirement, health benefits, and life insurance coverage.

Federal agencies and the public are invited to submit comments until April 28, 2026, via the Federal Rulemaking Portal. OPM is particularly interested in feedback regarding the necessity, accuracy, utility, and clarity of the information collection, as well as methods to minimize the burden on respondents. This is a routine request for comment on an existing information collection, not a new regulation or enforcement action.

What to do next

  1. Review the OPM's Information and Instruction on Your Reconsideration Rights collection request (RI 38-47).
  2. Submit comments on the collection's necessity, accuracy, utility, and clarity by April 28, 2026.
  3. Consider methods to minimize respondent burden for this collection.
