For Immediate Release April 21, 2026 DETR Releases Local Area Employment Statistics for February 2026 According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation's (DETR) February 2026 economic report, the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.3 percent in February 2026 which was unchanged from January. Seasonally adjusted estimates account for regularly seen economic patterns, with the following estimates not seasonally adjusted. In the three Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA), the unemployment rates were 5.8 percent in the Las Vegas area, 4.6 percent in Reno, and 4.5 percent in the Carson area in February 2026. In Nevada's counties, the lowest unemployment rate was observed in Humboldt County at 3.8 percent, while Mineral County had the highest rate at 10.8 percent. Published on April 21, 2026 In February 2026, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Nevada remained steady at 5.3 percent compared to January 2026. Over the same period, the unadjusted unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 pp, from 5.6 percent to 5.5 percent. The seasonally adjusted number of employed individuals in the state went up by 2,962, compared to January 2026. At the MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) level, unemployment rates decreased in two MSAs compared to January 2026. In the Las Vegas-Henderson-North Las Vegas MSA, the unemployment rate remained steady at 5.8 percent. The Reno-Sparks MSA unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 pp, changing from 4.7 percent to 4.6 percent. Meanwhile, the Carson City MSA unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 pp, moving from 4.6 percent in January to 4.5 percent. These figures are not seasonally adjusted. At the county level, a majority of Nevada's counties (9 out of 17) experienced a decrease in unemployment rates compared to January 2026. The county with the largest decrease was Nye (-0.2 pp), while Esmeralda had the highest increase (0.8 pp). Figures for state unemployment estimates come from the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) program, a state/federal partnership sponsored by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS-LAUS). This program produces monthly and annual employment, unemployment, and labor force data for census regions, states, counties, metropolitan areas, and many large cities, based on place of residence. Seasonally adjusted estimates account for regularly seen seasonal employment patterns such as jobs associated with holiday hiring, holiday and weather seasons, or other jobs with seasonal components. The result of a seasonally adjusted estimate is usually a smoother estimate from which underlying economic trends can be seen. Adjusted estimates are in the summary table above, and in many of the other tables and figures throughout this document. Nevada's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.3 percent in February, which was unchanged from 5.3 percent in January, and decreased by 0.1 pp from 5.4 percent in February 2025. The number of unemployed individuals increased by 867 from January to a current level of 90,149 people, which increased by 1,288 unemployed people since February 2025. The labor force in Nevada is currently composed of 1,698,029 people, up 3,829 from January, and up 40,539 from February 2025.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Statistical Area's (MSA) unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.8 percent in February 2026, down from 5.9 percent in February 2025, not seasonally adjusted. The number of unemployed individuals decreased by 41 since January for a current level of 73,394 people, which is 182 more unemployed people than in February 2025. The labor force in Las Vegas is currently composed of 1,257,678 people, which is 1,026 fewer people than in January, and up 18,410 people since February 2025.

The Reno MSA's unemployment rate was 4.6 percent in February 2026, down from 4.7 percent in January, and down from 4.9 percent in February 2025, non-seasonally adjusted. The number of unemployed individuals decreased by 154 since January for a current level of 14,233 people, which is 743 fewer unemployed people than in February 2025. The labor force in Reno is currently composed of 308,912 people, which is 2,262 more people than in January, and up 2,325 people since February 2025.

The Carson City MSA's unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in February, down from 4.6 percent in January, and down from 4.8 percent in February 2025, not seasonally adjusted. The number of unemployed individuals decreased by 41 since January for a current level of 1,342 people, which is 89 fewer unemployed people than in February 2025. The labor force in Carson City is currently composed of 30,013 people, which is 170 fewer people than in January, and up 51 since February 2025.

Unemployment Insurance Benefits In February 2026, 10,745 initial claims for unemployment insurance were filed in Nevada, representing a decrease of 2181 claims, or -16.9 percent, from January 2026 when there were 12,926 claims. However, this is a decrease of 3 claims from February 2025 when there were 10,748 initial claims.
