Summary

Norway's Arbeidstilsynet has implemented the EU's fifth amendment directive 2024/869/EU to the carcinogen-mutagen-reproductive toxic directive 2004/37/EC through amendments to the Regulations on limit values. The new rules establish exposure limits for diisocyanates (carcinogenic) and lead and inorganic lead compounds (reproductive toxic). Biological limit values for lead now specify 45 µg Pb per liter blood for women of fertile age and 150 µg Pb per liter blood for other workers. The directive applies from 9 April 2024.

“Grenseverdi for bly er 45 µg Pb per liter blod for kvinner i fertil alder og 150 µg Pb per liter blod for andre arbeidstakarar.”

What changed

Arbeidstilsynet has amended the Regulations on limit values (forskrift om tiltaks- og grenseverdier) § 5-2 and Annex 1 to implement EU Directive 2024/869/EU, which updates the CMR Directive 2004/37/EC. One carcinogenic substance group (diisocyanates) and one reproductive toxic substance (lead and inorganic lead compounds) have received new limit values. New biological limit values for lead specify 45 µg Pb/L for women of fertile age and 150 µg Pb/L for other workers.

Employers in manufacturing, construction, automotive, and industrial sectors where diisocyanates or lead compounds are used must review exposure monitoring programs, implement controls to meet the new limits, and establish biological testing protocols for lead with gender-specific thresholds. Documentation requirements under the new annex apply from 9 April 2024.

EU-direktiv gir nye grenseverdiar for diisocyanat og bly og uorganiske blyforbindelsar

Publisert 14.04.2026 - Lesetid: 3 min
