Florida Insurance Rate Relief: 8.7% Average Decrease, Spring 2026
Governor Ron DeSantis and FL OIR announce an 8.7% average insurance rate decrease for Citizens Property Insurance policyholders beginning Spring 2026 at policy renewal. Over 330,000 policyholders across all 67 Florida counties will see rate reductions, with more than 150,000 receiving decreases of 10% or greater. South Florida counties (Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, Monroe) will see the largest reductions, ranging from 11.3% to 14.1%.
Commissioner Yaworsky Approves USAA 7% Auto Rate Cut, $125M Savings
Florida Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky approved USAA's 7% auto insurance rate decrease effective May 2026, resulting in $125 million in estimated annual savings for Florida members. The Office of Insurance Regulation has approved multiple auto insurance rate reductions, with 42 companies covering personal auto lines filing rate decreases in the past year, including 32 within the last six months.
American Dream Auto Protect Cease-and-Desist Order for Unlicensed Warranty Sales
Florida Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky ordered American Dream Auto Protect to cease business in Florida for operating without a required license. The company sold motor vehicle service agreements without OIR licensure, holding nearly 900 in-force contracts and $2.2 million in unearned written premiums. Under the consent order, American Dream must continue administering existing warranties, allow consumer cancellations with refunds, and pay claims per Florida law.
Florida Top 5 Auto Groups Get -8% Rate Decrease
The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation announced that Florida's top five auto insurance groups are indicating an average -8% rate change for 2026. These five groups—Progressive, Berkshire Hathaway (GEICO), State Farm, Allstate, and USAA—comprise 78% of Florida's auto insurance market. The announcement attributes the rate decreases to historic legislative tort reforms and notes improved loss ratios, with Florida's 2025 personal auto liability loss ratio at 52.5%, the lowest recorded in 15 years.
Suspension Order Against Mirra Health for Offshore Data Transfer Violations
Florida Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky ordered the immediate suspension of Mirra Health Care, LLC's certificate of authority for illegally delegating claims processing to unlicensed offshore entities in India and the Philippines. The company provides administrative services to Florida HMOs covering over 23,000 Medicare Advantage enrollees with chronic and institutional special needs. The Florida OIR found that Mirra Health exposed sensitive claims and enrollment data—including C-SNP, D-SNP, and I-SNP participant information—to foreign entities beyond regulatory reach, in violation of Florida's Insurance Code.
