Summary
USPTO published patent application US20260097167A1 filed on December 11, 2025, Application No. 19416083. The application by inventors Glauser, Tschirren, Loser, and Schrul covers an injection device with a drive spring and needle cover spring mechanism for drug delivery. The device includes a housing, a drive member for dispensing drugs, and a needle cover movable between covering and retracted positions that compress or expand the spring member.
What changed
USPTO published patent application US20260097167A1 for an injection device incorporating spring mechanisms for both drug dispensing and needle cover operation. The application covers a housing with longitudinal axis, a drive member, and a spring member operatively coupled to both the drive member and a movable needle cover, where needle cover movement compresses or expands the spring member.
Medical device manufacturers developing injection devices or drug delivery systems should monitor this application for competitive intelligence purposes. The published application establishes a priority date of December 11, 2025, and may influence future product development in the injection device space.

DRIVE SPRING AND NEEDLE COVER SPRING FOR AN INJECTION DEVICE
Application US20260097167A1 Kind: A1 Apr 09, 2026
Inventors
Oliver Glauser, Markus Tschirren, Peter Loser, Christian Schrul
Abstract
An injection device for dispensing a drug from a reservoir through a needle includes a housing defining a longitudinal axis, a drive member movable relative to the housing to dispense the drug, a spring member operatively coupled the drive member to move the drive member in a dispensing direction, and a needle cover movable along the longitudinal axis relative to the housing between a needle covering position and a retracted position defining a needle cover movement along a first distance. Additionally, the spring member is operatively coupled to the needle cover such that the needle cover movement causes the spring member to compress or expand.
