Image-Assisted Delivery of an Expander in a Urethra for BPH Treatment
Summary
The USPTO published patent application US20260096914A1 for an image-assisted delivery device designed to implant a biocompatible expander in the urethra for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The expander is configured for implantation into the prostatic urethra spanning between the bladder neck and external sphincter. The application was filed on December 11, 2025, and published on April 9, 2026.
What changed
The USPTO published patent application US20260096914A1 covering an image-assisted delivery system for implantable urethra expanders used in BPH treatment. The invention describes a resiliently deformable biocompatible expander that transitions from a radially expanded relaxed state to a contracted state for transluminal delivery through the urinary duct, capable of exerting outward radial force against the urethral wall in situ.
Medical device manufacturers developing urological implants or BPH treatment devices should monitor this application to assess potential overlaps with existing product lines, identify design-around opportunities, or evaluate licensing possibilities. The dual CPC classification spanning A61F (prostheses/implants) and A61M (medical devices) indicates broad scope potentially affecting both implant design and delivery system functionality.

Abstract
A delivery device for image-assisted delivery of an implantable expander in a urethra. An implantable biocompatible expander suitable for implantation into a urinary duct is resiliently deformable from a relaxed radially expanded orientation to a radially contracted orientation suitable for transluminal delivery through the urinary duct. The expander may be configured to exert an outward radial force against a wall of the urinary duct when in-situ within the urinary duct. In particular, the expander is suitable for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and configured for implantation into the prostatic urethra between, and substantially spanning the prostatic urethra between, the bladder neck and external sphincter.
