Summary

USPTO granted patent US12597522B2 to Ajou University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation covering a method and system for managing pressure ulcers using a computing device with risk evaluation and prevention management modules. The patent includes 17 claims and covers technology for assessing patient pressure ulcer risk levels and scheduling prevention activities in hospital settings.

What changed

USPTO issued patent grant US12597522B2 for a pressure ulcer management system invented by Jae Sung Heo, Sang Hyun Lim, Hyo Geun Rim, and Eun Sun Chung. The patent describes a computing device equipped with processors and memory storing programs that execute a pressure ulcer risk level evaluation module (which acquires patient risk factor information and calculates risk levels) and a prevention management module (which schedules prevention activities for high-risk patients). The technology incorporates machine learning elements as indicated by CPC classification G06N20/00.

Healthcare providers and medical technology companies developing patient monitoring or risk assessment systems should review this patent to understand potential IP constraints on similar pressure ulcer management technologies. The patent's broad claim scope covering risk evaluation and prevention scheduling in hospital computing systems may affect product development strategies for wound care management and patient safety software solutions.

Abstract

Disclosed are a method and system for managing pressure ulcers and computing device for executing the same. The computing device according to a disclosed embodiment is a computing device provided with one or more processors and a memory storing one or more programs executed by the one or more processors, the computing device including a pressure ulcer risk level evaluation module configured to acquire pressure ulcer risk factor information of a patient admitted to a hospital and calculate a pressure ulcer risk level of the corresponding patient based on the acquired pressure ulcer risk factor information, and a pressure ulcer prevention management module configured to schedule a pressure ulcer prevention activity for a patient whose pressure ulcer risk level is equal to or higher than a predetermined threshold level.
