What changed

The USPTO published patent application US20260090885A1 disclosing a heart valve prosthesis with a leaflet clipping mechanism designed to engage valve leaflets within prosthetic or native heart valve structures. The prosthesis comprises a valve anchor with U-shaped members having base portions and engagement structures, an expandable valve frame, and a link mechanism interconnecting the anchor with the frame. The U-shaped members and valve frame collectively form a clipping mechanism.

Patent applicants and medical device manufacturers should review this application to assess competitive landscape in transcatheter valve replacement technology. No immediate compliance action is required as this is a published patent application rather than an issued patent or regulatory requirement. Parties developing similar valve prosthesis technologies should consider freedom-to-operate analyses.

Abstract

A heart valve prosthesis can have a leaflet clipping mechanism that is used to engage the prosthesis within a prosthetic or native heart valve structure. The prosthesis can include a valve anchor with U-shaped members that each have base portions and engagement structures extending from each base portion. The prosthesis can also include an expandable valve frame and a link mechanism interconnecting the valve anchor with the valve frame. The U-shaped members and the valve frame can collectively form a clipping mechanism that is configured to engage valve leaflets of the prosthetic or native heart valve therebetween.
