Louisiana Anticipates CMS Approval for 1115 Prison Reentry Demonstration Waiver
Louisiana Department of Health announces anticipation of CMS approval for its Section 1115 Medicaid Reentry Demonstration Waiver. Louisiana was the first state to align its waiver with new federal budget-neutrality requirements under Sec. 71118 of H.R. 1 (OBBBA), effective January 1, 2027. The waiver aims to improve health outcomes for individuals transitioning from incarceration by connecting them to Medicaid coverage and pre-release services.

LaCHIP Phase V Compliance Rule Amendments, Proposed
The Louisiana Department of Health proposes amendments to LAC 50:I.Chapter 205 governing the Louisiana Children's Health Insurance Program (LaCHIP) Phase V. The amendments align state rules with federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulation 42 CFR § 457.340(e) regarding twelve-month continuous eligibility and procedures for non-payment of premiums.

Office of Rural Health Transformation and Sustainability established
Governor Jeff Landry signed an executive order establishing the Office of Rural Health Transformation and Sustainability within the Louisiana Department of Health. The new office will oversee implementation of Louisiana's Rural Health Transformation Program with over $208 million in federal funding, potentially drawing down more than $1 billion over five years. An advisory council will guide implementation and ensure efforts align with statewide priorities.

Louisiana closes UnitedHealthcare contract, reassigns Medicaid members
The Louisiana Department of Health announced closure of its contract with UnitedHealthcare, completing the reassignment of approximately 280,000 Medicaid members to other participating managed care organizations. Over 36,000 members selected new plans during the Special Enrollment Period from January 15 to February 15, with remaining members auto-assigned using an algorithm that prioritized family unity and provider continuity. Receiving MCOs are required to honor all existing care authorizations for 60 days following the transition.

Fee-for-Service Claims Processing Correction Notice
The Louisiana Department of Health issued a notice regarding a system error by Gainwell Technologies affecting fee-for-service claims processed on November 4 and December 9, 2025. Due to a ClaimsXten editing system failure, certain professional, outpatient hospital, and DME claims were paid without proper NCCI edits. LDH will void and reprocess affected claims beginning March 31, 2026.

LDH Reports Seafood Sampling Results from Oil Spill Area
The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has reported initial seafood sampling results from an area affected by an oil leak. Samples of oysters, shrimp, finfish, and crab from Basin 12 showed clear results for petroleum contamination. The LDH previously closed Basin 12 to oyster harvesting as a precautionary measure.
