Dr Shakir Meghani Alabama Controlled Substances Certificate Reinstated With Conditions
Summary
The Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners issued an Amended Consent Order reinstating Dr. Shakir R. Meghani's controlled substances prescribing authority (Certificate No. ACSC.22917) with conditions. The physician's prescribing privileges had been restricted in October 2019 under a Consent Order. The reinstated authority covers Schedules II through V controlled substances and is contingent upon continued participation in a CPEP education plan, monthly reporting, adherence to preceptor oversight, and agreement to surrender the certificate upon any violation of the order.
What changed
The Amended Consent Order reinstates Dr. Meghani's controlled substances prescribing authority (Certificate No. ACSC.22917) that was restricted on October 22, 2019. The order modifies the prior restrictions by reinstating Schedules II through V controlled substance prescribing privileges while imposing continued compliance conditions.
Affected healthcare providers and patients should note that Dr. Meghani's prescribing authority remains conditional. The physician must maintain CPEP education plan participation, submit monthly prescribing logs for review, adhere to all CPEP recommendations, and continue preceptor oversight. Violation of any condition triggers automatic surrender of prescribing authority.
What to do next
- Continue the Education Plan established by CPEP including reviewing controlled substance prescribing practices and submitting monthly prescribing logs and patient charts for review
- Fully adhere and abide by any and all recommendations made by CPEP
- Submit any and all reports relating to courses, education, evaluations, or correspondence with CPEP to the Board
- Continue to work with and utilize a preceptor
- Surrender the Alabama Controlled Substances Certificate upon confirmation of a violation of this Amended Consent Order
