Governor Stein Reacts to Duke Energy Efforts to Charge Ratepayers Additional $800 Million

Governor Roy Cooper (North Carolina) issued a statement responding to Duke Energy's announcement that it intends to seek an additional $800 million in fuel costs from the North Carolina Utilities Commission. The Governor stated he vetoed Senate Bill 266 because it would expose ratepayers to volatile fuel markets and shift electricity costs from large industrial users to regular consumers. Independent studies from NC State University and Duke University found that Senate Bill 266 would increase costs to North Carolina ratepayers by $23 billion over coming years.

North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority Approves $1.66M in Grants Creating 215 Jobs

North Carolina's Rural Infrastructure Authority approved seven grant requests totaling $1,657,500 for local governments. The grants, awarded under the Building Reuse Program, are expected to leverage approximately $41 million in total investment and create 189 new jobs across rural North Carolina communities including Anson, Henderson, Rockingham, Cherokee, Gaston, and Robeson counties.

Navy Signs 10-Year Lease at NC Global TransPark Bringing 400+ Jobs

Governor Josh Stein announced that N.C. Global TransPark in Kinston and the U.S. Navy have signed a 10-year agreement bringing more than 400 jobs to eastern North Carolina. The Navy will pay $15 million per year to occupy a 65-acre space supporting aircraft maintenance and overhaul for Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE). State lawmakers approved a $350 million loan in 2023 for site improvements to accommodate FRCE.
