From: Government Data Quality Hub Published 13 March 2023
Last September, the data community came together to participate in DataConnect22, an online data conference with a difference! We coordinated the week-long event with the Central Digital and Data Office in Cabinet Office to celebrate data in the UK public sector.
The event saw massive growth in interest since DataConnect21, with over 9,000 sign ups coming from over 500 organisations across government, academia, the public sector and more. More than 70 sessions were delivered across the week, with a great mix of topics ranging from data linkage, coding, quality assurance, to qualitative methods, best practice, and networking sessions to name just a few. If you were not lucky enough to attend, information on all the talks can be found on the DataConnect website.
This year we are doing it again, bigger and better than ever, so come be a part of it! We are pleased to announce that DataConnect23 will take place from 25 to 29 September, so mark your calendars now.
Presenters’ Perspectives from DataConnect22
To understand the impact you could make as a presenter or the experience you could gain as an attendee, some of our presenters have shared their reflections on their sessions from last year.
Alice Toms, a presenter for the ‘Quality in equals Quality Out” session explained “DataConnect is different as it provides an opportunity for members of the public to get involved.” She also says, “One of the best things about DataConnect is the wide range of people who seemed genuinely interested and eager to interact in every session. Clearly demonstrating a sense of community which is not always common at conferences.”
Similarly, Matt Thompson, presenter for the second year in a row, says his biggest takeaway is “the high levels of engagement throughout the sessions. The data community is so keen to talk and learn, it is fantastic to have more questions than possible to get through in one session.”
Co-organiser Rebecca Strickland said “it was great to make connections with so many people from across the public sector. DataConnect22 was a fantastic way to get our data quality work out to a wider audience.”
Many sessions saw the benefits of a wide variety of professions attending from data architects to data analysts, from data scientists to data strategists, all sharing their passion for data.
Clearly, DataConnect22 provided the platform to engage with and learn from the data community. If you missed out last year then now your opportunity is back by being part of DataConnect23!
