What changed

The Government Data Quality Community was launched in 2022 by the Government Data Quality Hub to connect public sector data professionals across UK government departments, devolved and local government, arm's length bodies, and non-ministerial departments. The community holds virtual meetups every two months on data quality themes and informal monthly Coffee Connect sessions. Topics are member-driven and cover the full data lifecycle, from technical to strategic aspects including valuing data as an asset, communicating data quality, and developing data quality policies.

Public sector data professionals across the UK can join the community by emailing dqhub@ons.gov.uk to network, share experiences, and build capability. There are no compliance obligations or regulatory requirements imposed by this announcement — it is purely an informational notice about a voluntary professional networking community. Organisations with data quality responsibilities should monitor communications from DQHub for updates on community events and best practice resources.

What to do next

  1. Join the Government Data Quality Community by emailing dqhub@ons.gov.uk

Government Data Quality Community

What we do

The Government Data Quality Community launched in 2022 with the aim of improving data quality across government departments and public sector organisations by:

  • connecting people working on, or with an interest in, data quality across UK government and the public sector
  • sharing best practice and experiences
  • building capability and skills within the Community Data quality covers the whole data lifecycle, so if you’re interested in any element of data quality please join us.

How we meet

The Government Data Quality Community provides the opportunity to make connections with others working across the sector. There’s usually time for networking in small groups.

We host meetups every two months with a range of topics around data quality themes. We also hold an informal monthly Coffee Connect session to enable networking between members. Everyone is welcome.

All meetups are hosted virtually, and we vary the days and times of the meetings. You’re welcome to join these as an attendee or a speaker.

What we cover

We discuss good practice, experiences and the challenges we currently face, to work together to enable continuous improvement of data quality throughout government.

Community members suggest topics for the two monthly meetings, and can cover anything on the broad spectrum of data quality activities from technical to strategic. Examples of previous topics include:

  • valuing data as an asset
  • communicating data quality
  • developing a data quality policy

Who can join

No matter your experience or role, if you’re interested in data quality and work in UK government, or public sector you’re welcome to join the community.  This includes devolved and local government, arm’s length bodies and non-ministerial departments.

How to get involved

The Government Data Quality Hub (DQHub) support the Government Data Quality Community by facilitating meet-ups and community events.

If you want to join the Community, or find out more, please email dqhub@ons.gov.uk

If you have a data quality topic or example that you’d like to share with the Community, please get in touch.
