California Indian Heritage Center Breaks Ground in Sacramento
California: $275B Net Federal Contributor, Largest Donor State
Governor Gavin Newsom released a Tax Day statement highlighting California's status as the nation's largest donor state, sending approximately $275 billion more to the federal government than it receives in federal spending. The statement also criticized federal policies for allegedly increasing fuel costs, monthly utility bills, and grocery prices for American families.
Special Election August 18, 2026 for California Congressional District 14
Governor Gavin Newsom issued a proclamation on April 14, 2026 setting a special election for August 18, 2026 to fill the vacancy in California's 14th Congressional District. The vacancy resulted from the resignation of Representative Eric Swalwell from the U.S. House of Representatives.
$520M Natural Gas Climate Credits Delivered to California Residents
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced $520 million in natural gas climate credits being delivered to utility customers this month through the state's Cap-and-Invest program. The average natural gas customer will receive approximately $40 in bill credits. Combined with $894 million in electric credits, residential customers will receive $1.4 billion in total credits this year.
