HB95 Alabama Post-Election Audit Act Signed Into Law
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed HB95, the Alabama Post-Election Audit Act, on April 13, 2026. The new law requires every county to conduct post-election audits following each general election, auditing one countywide and one statewide race from one precinct per county. Probate judges will oversee audits and report findings to the Secretary of State's Office, where results will be made publicly available online.
14 Appointments Announced Including Marion County District Judge
Governor Kay Ivey announced 14 judicial and governmental appointments effective April 13, 2026. Key appointment includes John Hunter Fikes as District Judge for the 25th Judicial Circuit in Marion County, filling a vacancy created by District Judge Mark Hammitte's retirement on April 1, 2026. Fikes is a 2014 Cumberland School of Law graduate who has operated the Fikes Law firm in Hamilton for 12 years.
Governor Ivey Signs Let the Kids Play! Act Protecting CHOOSE Act Student-Athletes
Governor Kay Ivey signed Senate Bill 342 (Let the Kids Play! Act) into law on April 14, 2026. The legislation establishes mechanisms for students and schools to challenge violations of the CHOOSE Act's nondiscrimination provision by the Alabama High School Athletic Association. The law applies where a student's CHOOSE Act status is the sole basis for denying athletic eligibility, while preserving the association's authority to enforce rules applicable to all students regardless of CHOOSE Act participation.
Alabama Work Zone Safety Act (SB341) Establishes Speed Enforcement Pilot
Governor Kay Ivey signed Senate Bill 341, the Alabama Work Zone Safety Act, establishing a pilot program for photographic speed enforcement systems in interstate highway work zones. The legislation is sponsored by Sen. Josh Carnley and Rep. Mike Kirkland. A driver awareness program will launch in October, with full enforcement expected before the end of the year. The law requires reports to the Legislature studying the pilot program's effectiveness.
Governor Ivey Signs Rural Health, EMS, SNAP Bills Into Law
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed five healthcare-related bills into law on April 15, 2026. HB605 provides limited antitrust immunity for rural healthcare provider collaboration.
