Mendoza Reminds Construction Workers About Illinois Prevailing Wage Laws
Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza is reminding construction workers on publicly funded projects about prevailing wage protections and the resources available through her office to report wage violations. The Comptroller's 2019 executive order authorizes the Illinois Office of Comptroller to stop state payments to contractors found in violation of prevailing wage laws. In 2024, the office received 147 inquiries with about half resolved; so far in 2025, 18 cases have been investigated including large broadband projects and an IDOT project expected to result in back wages being paid.

Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza attended a portrait unveiling at Wild Rose Artisans Gallery & Boutique in Springfield on March 11, 2025, featuring a commissioned portrait of herself, her mother, and labor leader Dolores Huerta. During the event, Mendoza promoted her office's SMART Business program, which assists small businesses with state vendor registration, and the Business Enterprise Program (BEP), which provides free certification for businesses owned by minorities, women, and persons with disabilities. Illinois has approximately 1.4 million small businesses employing nearly 44 percent of the state's workforce.
Illinois Comptroller Mendoza Backs Lawsuit to Protect $1B Federal Funding for Families
Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza issued a statement supporting a lawsuit filed by Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and counterparts in four other states to block the Trump Administration from freezing $1 billion in Congressionally-authorized funding for food assistance, safe housing, and childcare services for Illinois families. The Comptroller stated that the power of the purse rests with Congress, not the executive branch, and expressed concern that childcare providers and social service agencies across the state have been unable to proceed with services due to the funding freeze.
