On Thursday 26 March, five members of the Channel Islands All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) visited Guernsey. The visit focused on deepening UK parliamentarians' understanding of the Channel Islands and the constitutional relationship with the UK.
During their time in Guernsey, the delegation visited the States of Deliberation and engaged with new deputies from Guernsey who visited Westminster with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) in November 2025. As part of the CPA UK focus on ending violence against women and girls, the delegation also visited Guernsey's Sexual Assault Referral Centre at Willow House to learn about the island's approach to providing specialist, victim‑focused support services.
The APPG also had the opportunity to meet with the President of the Policy & Resources Committee, Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, and other senior figures in Guernsey's government, including the Presidents of the Committee for Economic Development and the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure to discuss a number of policy priorities, and gain insight into how the island engages internationally as a self-governing, responsible jurisdiction.
The APPG delegation also went onto visit Sark and Jersey. Alderney representatives held discussions with the APPG while they were in Guernsey.
Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, said:
"We always welcome the opportunity to meet with UK parliamentarians, particularly those who have an interest in the Channel Islands, and it was a genuine pleasure to meet with these members of our APPG during their time in Guernsey. Naturally, we took the opportunity to detail the island's contribution to the UK, strengthen mutual understanding, and highlight the significance of our long-standing constitutional relationship, but we also enjoyed wide-ranging conversations that touched on current priorities, shared challenges and some of our aspirations for the Bailiwick as we look to the future.
"It was a particular pleasure to welcome Baroness Pitkeathley back to the island of her birth: she and her son - who is also a member of the House of Lords in his own right, and a fellow member of the Channel Islands APPG - were delighted to reconnect with their family heritage while they were in the island."
