Summary

Colorado Bill SB26-098 proposes to reestablish local authority regarding noise abatement. The bill would exempt certain uses of state or local government property, property with local sound permits, and nonprofit events from statewide noise level limits.

What changed

Colorado Bill SB26-098, currently under consideration, aims to amend existing noise abatement provisions by reestablishing local authority. Specifically, the bill proposes to exempt the use of property owned or controlled by the state or a political subdivision, property used under a local government-issued sound permit, and property owned by a nonprofit entity for cultural, entertainment, athletic, or patriotic events from statewide noise level limits.

This legislation, if passed, would allow local governments more flexibility in managing noise regulations for specific types of properties and events. Regulated entities, particularly those operating under permits or on government-owned land, should monitor the bill's progress. Compliance officers should be aware of potential shifts in local noise ordinances and ensure adherence to any new or revised local regulations that may arise from this reestablished authority.

What to do next

  1. Monitor the progress of Colorado Bill SB26-098.
  2. Review potential changes to local noise ordinances if the bill is enacted.
  3. Ensure compliance with any revised local noise abatement regulations.
