Summary

The Bailiwick Commission has launched a survey to gather islanders' views on the relationship between the Bailiwick islands. The survey is open until May 15, 2026, and aims to inform the Commission's recommendations for the Bailiwick Governments.

What changed

The Bailiwick Commission, formally commencing its work on March 24, 2026, has launched a public survey to solicit input from individuals and organizations regarding the relationships between the Bailiwick islands. This consultation is a key step in the Commission's inquiry, which aims to provide recommendations to the Bailiwick Governments on adapting these relationships for future purposes.

Islanders and organizations are encouraged to participate in the survey, available until May 15, 2026, and to engage with the Commission through its dedicated webpage and upcoming events. The Commission's findings will be presented in interim and final reports, and active participation is crucial for ensuring community voices are heard in shaping future inter-island relations.

What to do next

  1. Submit feedback via the Bailiwick Commission survey by May 15, 2026.
  2. Review the Commission's objectives and scope on its dedicated webpage.

The first meeting, marking the formal commencement of the Bailiwick Commission, took place on 24 March 2026.

The Commissioners have already started preparatory work, to build on their existing knowledge of the relationships between the Bailiwick islands and upon previous work they have undertaken with the islands.

To initiate their work, the Commission has launched a survey to gather the communities' views on the relationship between the islands of the Bailiwick. This gives individuals and organisations the opportunity to provide their views and ideas for how things could change or be improved and to provide input to the Commission's work.

The survey can be found at https://forms.office.com/e/aBdHrb5syi and is open until 15 May 2026.

The Commission has also set up a webpage which details its objectives, the scope of its work, the events it will run and how the islands' communities and organisations can join in with the Bailiwick-wide conversation and ensure their voices are heard. Updates of the Commission's work will be posted on this website, and future opportunities to engage with the Commission will also be listed here.

The website can be found at BailiwickCommission.gg.

Sir Bob Neill, Chair of the Bailiwick Commission, said:

"I am delighted to have been appointed as the Chair of the Bailiwick Commission and to lead the team of Commissioners with this important inquiry. I'd hope we all bring significant expertise in our fields and will be able to provide a different perspective to this work. Although none of us are islanders in the true sense, we each have knowledge and experience of working with the islands previously. We are looking forward to further expanding our understanding and will be drawing on local and expert advisers as we undertake this work.

"The first meeting of the Commission allowed us to start to plan how we will undertake our work, considering the existing relationships between the islands and whether these relationships may need to be adapted to ensure they are fit for future purpose.  We are planning visits to the Bailiwick as a matter of priority; to engage directly with the islands' communities and hear views firsthand, as well as engaging with local organisations, business and governments.

"Ultimately, our recommendations will be included in our interim and final reports for the three Bailiwick Governments. We strongly encourage communities to engage through our website, as well as in person by attending our events, throughout the course of the inquiry."
