ABS Begins Nationwide Field Officer Recruitment for 2026 Census
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has announced the commencement of nationwide recruitment for more than 16,000 Field Officers to support the 2026 Census. Applications are open now, with positions available in all major cities and regional areas across Australia. The hourly rate is $31.19 (inclusive of 25 per cent casual loading) plus superannuation, and field work is expected to begin between July and early August 2026.
ABS Calls Norfolk Islanders to Fill 2026 Census Field Officer Roles
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is recruiting Norfolk Islanders to fill four Census Field Officer positions ahead of the 2026 Census. Census night is Tuesday 11 August 2026, with Field Officers commencing work in July to distribute and collect Census forms and provide community support. Census participation is compulsory for all persons in Australia on Census night, including Norfolk Island.
Australian Unemployment Rate Holds at 4.3% in March 2026
The Australian Bureau of Statistics released March 2026 labour force data showing the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 4.3%. Employment rose by 18,000 people, driven by full-time workers increasing by 53,000, partly offset by a fall in part-time employment of 35,000.
