What changed

The NAVLE will shift from its traditional single-window format to three distinct testing windows per year, beginning in the 2025-2026 cycle. This structural change is designed to better accommodate the growing number of veterinary candidates and provides more flexible scheduling options.

Affected parties—including senior veterinary students, recent graduates, and licensing boards—should note the new attempt limitation of two NAVLE attempts prior to graduation. Candidates requiring additional attempts will need to do so post-graduation. Licensing boards and candidates with questions should contact ICVA at mail@icva.net for further information.

NAVLE Transitions to Three Testing Windows

October 25, 2024

Application for Licensure Starting with the 2025-2026 testing cycle, the NAVLE will transition to three testing windows. This change provides greater accessibility for the increasing number of candidates, allows for quicker turnaround times for those who do not pass or who miss application deadlines, and simplifies scheduling for candidates with non-traditional graduation dates.

As this is a significant shift from the first 25 years of the NAVLE, the ICVA is committed to providing Licensing Boards and other stakeholders with timely information about the new process so candidate questions can be addressed as they arise.

Please note that the eligibility criteria for senior student NAVLE candidates will only allow for up to two NAVLE attempts prior to graduation.

If you have any questions or need further clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out to mail@icva.net.
