Montana Recognizes Military Children at Capitol Ceremony

Lieutenant Governor Juras, Montana National Guard Recognize April as Month of the Military Child

HELENA, Mont. – Lieutenant Governor Kristen Juras and the Montana National Guard today joined military families at the Montana State Capitol for a ceremony to recognize April as Month of the Military Child in Montana.

“Service in uniform is never borne by the individual alone, it is carried by the entire family,” said Lt. Gov. Juras. “Montana’s military children demonstrate a quiet courage and a steady resilience. They are a source of strength behind those who serve. This recognition affirms that their sacrifice is seen, valued, and deeply appreciated by a grateful state.”

Observed each April, the Month of the Military Child is a national recognition of the role military children play in supporting their parents in uniform especially during military training, emergency response, and overseas deployments.

In Montana, there are known to be over 6,000 military-connected youth in the state. During the ceremony, two Helena students of military families spoke about the importance of the recognition.

“As long as our country needs a military, there will be military children and we’ll be standing tall behind mom and dad with tears in our eyes, and a smile on our face waiting patiently for that welcome home hug,” Alice Begger, age 9 said.

Sharing the role of the Montana National Guard in supporting its families, Brigadier General Gibson shared, “Our readiness begins at home. Montana’s military children live at the intersection of service and community. They are grounded in their hometowns yet connected to a mission far greater than themselves. Their resilience and quiet strength make our force possible. When we recognize them, we are honoring the very foundation upon which our ability to serve rests.”
